For this article, I focused on the hamster homes that start at $23 at Petco, but even those aren’t ideal sizes. 

PetMD suggests that your hamster’s cage should be no less than 40 by 22.5 by 24 inches (102 x 57 x 61 cm). You should avail 6 to 8 inches (15-20 cm) of bedding within the cage. 

Hamsters have lots of energy, which they need to burn by running around, burrowing, and exploring their environments. They also need room to rest, feed, and use their chosen potty spot. 

It is also within their cage that you’d place their favorite thing in the world–a hamster wheel. And it, too, needs to be tall enough for the hamster who’ll be running on it. Syrians need larger wheels and, by extension, larger cages than dwarves.
